Post-Construction Cleaning Tips

After a big construction project, you’ll be excited to start organizing your new space. However, you’ll find that the first step will be post-construction cleanup.

Construction creates a big mess with lots of dust, such as sawdust, drywall dust, and tile dust. While construction workers will do what they can, they are not professional post-construction cleaners and do what is part of their job. Post-construction cleanup should be done by yourself or by hiring a construction cleaning service.

It’s very important to thoroughly clean your new space after construction. You don’t want to find debris months or years after the job is done, so getting it right is key to the project’s success.

Here, we’ve compiled several post-construction cleaning tips to make your life much easier.

Start from the Top

When starting post-construction cleanup, it’s best to start from the top by cleaning the ceiling. There will be a lot of dust, and you will kick it up as you clean, but if you start from the top, the dust will settle, and you won’t have to clean the same spot twice.

Always start cleaning from the top, and the job will be easier. If lighting fixtures are installed, you can clean them first. Ceiling vents should also be cleaned.

Let the dust settle

If you are working on post-construction cleanup and notice that the air looks cloudy because of the dust you’ve kicked up, it’s a good idea to take a break and let the dust settle on the floor. If you try to clean while there is a lot of dust in the air, you may clean well, but when the dust settles, you’ll have to clean again.

In the meantime, you can move to another area with less dust in the air. Once the dust has settled, you can continue cleaning where you left off, being careful not to kick up too much dust in the air again.

Open Windows While Cleaning

It’s a good idea to open windows and doors while doing post-construction cleaning. This will help some of the dust escape. This also helps make the air more breathable, as fresh air will come in, and dirty, dusty air can be released outside.

Some construction cleaners point fans toward windows to blow dust out. If you have a high-powered construction fan, this could help your efforts.

Clean Floors

The floors look awful after construction crews leave. It’s standard with all they’ve been doing. Anything other than dried paint on the floor will be easily removed with water.

You can sweep hard floors and then mop them to make them look shiny and new. You can apply a protective topcoat to make them shine. For carpets, vacuum as much as possible and use a damp rag to clean up dried dirt. Window Washing

The windows will probably have a good layer of dust inside, which can be removed with water and a soft cloth. After dusting, you can wipe them down again with a streak-free glass cleaner to get them completely clean.

Consider Hiring Professionals

As you’ve probably already realized, post-construction cleaning is a very labor-intensive job, so you’ll probably feel more comfortable hiring professionals to do it for you. Hire some professionals to clean everything up and help you get started from scratch.
